The Literary Arts department at Mississippi School of the Arts has released its official tenth edition of The Phoenix Literary Journal, consisting of poetry, short stories, and artwork from MSA’s own students. The tenth edition follows a long line of success by creating an outlet for young writers to express their works.

Colorful artwork is scattered throughout the journal, consisting of entries and artist statements by guest contributors. “We’re really excited to be celebrating the 10th year anniversary of The Phoenix Literary Journal. This year we incorporated a foreword and, for the first time, visual contributors wrote artist statements to accompany their work,” said Clinnesha Sibley, the Literary department instructor.

To have work included in the journal, a rigorous call for submissions takes place where artists submit their work to be considered. A panel of student editors then discuss and review the blind submissions and make their decision based on different criteria set by the editing team.

Contributors to the journal this year include: (Senior Literary) C.G. Aaron, Katelyn Bergeron, Jaycee Brown, Amory Campbell, Shelly Castilaw, Bradley Ducote, Jordyn Harper, Marley Roberson, Tykeria Thadison, Dee Dee Williams, and Leo Wimberly. (Junior Literary) Janey Aron, Zoe Conner, Madison Cox, Tyler Davis, Taylor Downs, Charlotte Drane, Timera Gaston, Sid Medina, Jackson Palmer, Mallori Peek, Claire Reams, Amaria Sumler, and Katie Westbrook.

Senior guest contributors include: Ade’ola Ayedun (artwork), Chrystian Butler (artwork), Caroline Moran (artwork), Octavian Singleton (artwork), and Tykeria Thadison (writing).

Copies of the literary journal are available for $10.00 each through the school office (Y-Hut).
