Mississippi School of the Arts’ Visual Arts Department welcomes you to a special exhibition, recognizing Black History Month. See works of art by junior and senior visual students, along with their instructors, Maurice Calvert and Brittany Horne. Featured artists to the exhibition also include Sabrina Howard, Robin Martéa, and Shambé Jones.

Sabrina Howard

Clauetta Sabrina Howard holds a BFA in art from Atlanta College of Art & Design. She is a graphic artist and painting teacher in Jackson, MS. She has created work for large and small organizations such as Jackson State University, IBM, and more. She created mural in Jackson in honor of her father, exhibited her work in juried shows with The Little Yellow Building, MS Museum of Art, and conducted live painting exhibitions for organizations such as the National Medical Association. https://www.sabrinahoward.com/

Robin Martéa

Robin Martéa is an illustrator, born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. Since grade school, she has been heavily involved in the visual arts and has since then, developed a strong foundation in mediums ranging from painting to photography. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received her M.F.A. in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. https://robinmartea.com/work

Shambé Jones

Shambé Jones of Jackson, MS is originally from Champagne-Urbana, Illinois. He is a graduate of the Fine Arts at Jackson State University. He is a member of the MS Craftsman’s Guild. He is a wood burning artist and poet. He has served as the outreach coordinator of Cooperation Jackson and organized a mural project in West Jackson in 2019. In 2021, he was named as one of seven Live.Impact.Create Fellows in Jackson through the Surdna Foundation fellowship to advance racial justice through art.

The showcase is free and will be available for tour from February 1 until February 28, 2022. Contact MSA for guest viewing (601-823-1300). Due to COVID-19 protocols, masks are required when inside the art gallery.
