Welcome to the Application for Audition at Mississippi School of the Arts.

Please follow the steps below to continue:

  1. Click “Continue” on this page and begin with Student Information. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk, and Mississippi School of the Arts will receive the information exactly as entered. Please be careful of spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. WARNING: This application must be completed in one setting. You cannot save and continue hours later or you risk losing your already-entered information.
  2. On the Self-Description Essay page, you’ll be given an online box to type your essay, answering the required questions. You may copy/paste the essay from another document.
  3. On the Required Forms page, you’ll be given links to download recommendation forms, information release, and declaration of residency forms. These forms can be filled out after submitting your online application. You can find additional copies of forms under Supplemental Application Forms on the admissions web site.
  4. Go back and review all of the information you entered.
  5. Submit the application.

Each student applying for audition to MSA must submit an individual application. This includes multiple students in the same family. Once you have successfully submitted one application, you will have the opportunity to begin another from the Submission Confirmation page.

Applicant Self-Description Essay

Please describe yourself by answering the following questions in an essay. The entire essay, including responses to all of the questions, should not exceed 4000 characters.

  1. Why do you want to attend the Mississippi School of the Arts

Permissions

CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

If the applicant, {name-1-first-name} {name-1-last-name}, is selected to advance to the On-Site Auditions for admissions to Mississippi School of the Arts (MSA), the applicant will be given access to certain information that is confidential and the sole property of MSA. In order to adequately protect MSA’s proprietary rights, and to prevent the unauthorized disclosure of MSA Confidential Information to others, Mississippi School of the Arts requires that applicants sign this Agreement before performing any work on behalf of MSA or participating in any exchange of confidential information.

The undersigned applicant hereby agrees to the following terms and conditions: 

  1. The applicant acknowledges that information about the assessment process is disclosed to the applicant trust and in the strictest confidence.
  2. The applicant shall not discuss MSA Confidential Information with any potential MSA applicants or third parties.

WAIVER OF PRIVACY AGREEMENT

In order for recommendations to remain confidential, applicants and their parent/guardian must agree to this waiver. The purpose of the recommendations to be placed in this applicant’s file is to assist in making admissions decisions. Pursuant to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the undersigned student and parent/guardian waive access to confidential recommendations.


Required Forms

In order for their applications to be considered complete, all students will need to submit: 

  • An Information Release Form to their current school
  • A Declaration of Legal Residence, along with two Proofs of Residency (e.g. drivers license, voters registration card, utility bill, etc.
  • One letter of recommendation for each arts discipline(s) the student is applying to
  • One letter of recommendation from a NON-ARTS teacher
  • One letter of recommendation from a principal OR counselor

These items will need to be turned in with the applicant’s portfolio.


Please give a copy of the completed Information Release Form to your guidance counselor. The form must be filed in your cumulative record in order for your counselor to release school records, transcripts, standardized test scores, and other pertinent information to MSA. Keep this original form and send it as part of your application.

After you have printed and signed this form, give to a non-arts teacher who has taught you an academic subject such as Science, Math, English, etc.

This form is to be submitted by Mississippi public school and non-public school students (not required of home-schooled students).

Complete and sign the top portion of this form and give it to your principal or counselor to complete the questionnaire and scale. Your principal or counselor will put this recommendation and your transcript in an envelope, sign across the flap, tape over the signature, and give the envelope to you to include with your application for audition.

Students applying to MSA as a home schooled student or as a student from a non-public school that is not
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools or the Mississippi Department of Education
must provide the following documents at the time of application deadline.

  1. Titles and descriptions (syllabus or chapter outline) of courses completed during each year of home
    schooling or attendance at the non-public school.
  2. Transcript and/or course-by-course list of credits and grades received during each year of home
    schooling or attendance at the non-public school.
  3. Grading scale of home school or non-public school and copies of scores from all standardized tests
    administered (ACT, SAT, PSAT, etc.)

Non-public school transcripts and test scores should be submitted by the school official in a sealed envelope,
signed across the flap and taped over the signature.

MSA officials will review the above documents to determine alignment with course content in the Mississippi
Curriculum Framework to award Carnegie units of credit to the student. Students may be asked to take
placement tests. Courses requiring placement tests will be determined by MSA. Students must have earned
the equivalent of 12 Carnegie units as determined through review of submitted documentation.

  • Students entering MSA will be required to pass any end-of-course Subject Area Test in a course for
    which the school accepts Carnegie units earned by the student in a private school as fulfilling the
    requirements for a Mississippi high school diploma if the private school is not accredited regionally
    or by the state of Mississippi.
  • Students entering MSA will be required to pass any end-of-course Subject Area Test in a course for
    which the school accepts Carnegie units earned by the student through home schooling as fulfilling
    the requirements for a Mississippi high school diploma.
