The Mississippi School of the Arts Foundation (MSAF) is sponsoring a guest artist residency at the Mississippi School of the Arts (MSA) with Mississippi actor, writer, and director, John Maxwell in a two-part residency.

On October 6-8 in the Enochs Black Box theater, MSA Theatre will perform Beth Henley’s acclaimed Crimes of the Heart as directed by John Maxwell. Tickets are $10/person for general admission seating. Ticket sales are recommended in advance to ensure your seats. Mr. Maxwell will work with students for three weeks to set the play. The event has been endorsed by the playwright, Beth Henley through a waiver of royalties to perform the work and a sponsorship of the residency.

On January 27, MSAF will host a fundraiser with Mr. Maxwell in his one man show Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write? Audience can enjoy a dinner in the Enochs Art Gallery at 7pm followed by the one-hour show in the Enochs Black Box Theater. Tickets are $50/person for dinner and the show.

MSA Guest Artist Residency Program is part of the long-range goals of the school to bring artists in from Mississippi and around the world to work with students and make work. Each year, MSA will host guest artists in various disciplines to enhance the arts instruction that is offered each day by its faculty.

In 2017-18, MSA had a budget cut that has deeply impacted operational capacity. These events are an effort to raise funds for the school while maintaining high quality programming for the students and community. If you would like to support MSA, you can send a tax-deductible donation to the MSA Foundation at PO Box 229, Brookhaven, MS 39602-0229 or click here for additional information and options.
