Elise was not only a singer during her studies at Mississippi School of the Arts, the staff and student body soon found out she could act, too. Elise, a former MSA vocal student from Hattiesburg who graduated in the spring of 2016, found her way to the big screen for Running Wild Films and 5J Media’s most recent production, Porches and Private Eyes.
Porches is a comedy/murder mystery tale of three southern women investigating what they think is a murder in a small town. The film, shot in the Brookhaven, Mississippi area, gained its title from the historic home-turned restaurant, Porches Restaurant, in Wesson, Mississippi (By the way, you should try them sometime). Elise played a main character, Jenny Rose, in the independent film.
With a small budget, the film received substantial support from the Brookhaven community at the world premiere on Saturday, September 3rd. The premiere was labeled as a “red carpet event”. Literally, a red carpet laid across West Cherokee Street as guests made their way into Brookhaven Little Theatre. “This is the first time I can ever remember Brookhaven having a red carpet event and film premiere”, said one guest at the event. Tuxedos, ties, dresses, and fancy shoes were a part of the attire. Guests had a snapshot taken on the red carpet as they entered into the theater, recording the memories of Brookhaven’s rare event. An original Kickstarter campaign landed post-production fundraising to over $10,000, and adjoining ticket sales to the premiere sold out faster than originally thought.
Elise, along with two other stars in the film, signed posters and posed for pictures during the evening event. Porches and Private Eyes will feature again at Brookhaven’s first-ever “Film Haven” film festival September 10th, hosted by Running Wild Films at Brookhaven Little Theatre. The festival will include a full afternoon of independent short films and panel discussions.
