The Mississippi School of the Arts (MSA) Literary Arts students recently received awards in the prestigious 2017-2018 Regional Scholastic Writing Competition. Writing entries represented diverse categories, including dramatic script, humor, journalism, personal essay/memoir, short story, poetry, science fiction/fantasy, as well as general fiction and non-fiction portfolios. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 15, 2:00PM at the Eudora Welty Home in Jackson, Mississippi.
Entries receiving American Voices nominations and Gold Key awards, which are the highest level of achievement, will be sent to New York City where they will compete in the national competition among 80 other regions.
2018 AMERICAN VOICES NOMINEE – Only five students are chosen as nominees to represent Mississippi as American Voices Award winners on the national level. Shelly Castilaw, a 2018 senior, received an American Voices nomination in this year’s competition. Amory Campbell, a 2018 senior, received a nomination last year in the 2017 competition.
These are the Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention Award recipients at Mississippi School of the Arts. One-hundred percent of the Literary Arts Class of 2018 received a Scholastic award. Congratulations to all students for a job well done!
