Elizabeth Cottage prepared for a Literary Arts showcase during the spring of 2016.

Students in the Visual and Literary Art departments recently received national medals through Scholastic Art and Writing. These awards were among Gold Key winners at the Mississippi Regional (statewide) Competition held in the winter of 2016-17. Students at the national level competed along with thousands of other students from every state in the nation.

Mississippi received 19 national awards, with 4 of those awards coming from Mississippi School of the Arts. Congratulations to Shelly Castilaw, a Literary Arts junior from Wesson, for receiving a Gold Medal for her Flash Fiction “Candlewax”, Sydney Lucero, a Literary Arts senior from New Hebron, for receiving a Silver Medal for her Short Story “As the Crow Flies” and a Gold Medal for her Flash Fiction “Here is the Church, Here is the Steeple.” Emmanuel Williams, a Visual Arts senior from Brookhaven, received a Silver Medal for his photographic print called “Essence.” Gold winners are eligible to attend a national award ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY.
